So
what's the deal with the band name? Rob, Ben and Ari were sitting
around one evening trying to figure out a name for the newly formed
band. They asked Rob's highly intelligent and philosophical
roomate Nelson for help. "It should be a name that reflects
something all you guys care about," to which Ari replied "I
am very concerned about Rob's welfare."
Why
such an answer? Because Rob's welfare is something that everyone
should be concerned about. See, Rob has a tendency to be a little
bit of a klutz, losing three finger nails and one toe nail so far,
falling over randomly in practice, jumping a little bit too enthusiastically
into Ben's cymbals, stepping on guitar cables during shows, and
bumping into things with his poor mistreated car.
The
real story begins in March of 2002 on the way back from a weekend
in Memphis. Somewhere in Alabama an 18-wheeler decided to merge
into Rob and Ben, sending them spinning off the road at about 80mph.
Needless to say, Rob's car was a mess, but luckily nobody was hurt,
not even the truck driver, who waved goodbye as we spun off the
road. Or maybe it wasn't a wave.
For
anyone who goes to Emory and lives on the Clairmont Campus, you
can guess where the next vehicular mishap took place: the parking
deck. Those concrete pillars DO move. Note, this was the only car
incident that was REALLY Rob's fault. Well, cept for that one time
in South Carolina. Oh yea and those two in Florida...crap.
Then
there was the first Masquerade show, where Rob got to play Down
by 311 on guitar for the opening song, and stepped on the guitar
cable, pulling it out of the amp, making his guitar slightly inaudible.
Sure, it was part of the act.
The
most recent (and hopefully LAST) mishap occurred on I-75 around
Macon on the way back from Thanksgiving in Miami. Once again, Ben
was riding shotgun. We got rear-ended by a senior citizen/Vietnam
Vet/disabled Georgia boy. Ben has vowed never to ride in Rob's car
over any long distances again. Rob has gladly approved the promise.
Stay
tuned for the next Mishap, and Mum, please don't worry about me.
